Babies need nurturing, consistent, responsive adults. In the first year, babies need to learn that their emotional and physical needs will be met.
1. They need to know that they are capable of influencing the world around them.2. They need a consistent enough environment so that they can predict the ways they will be comforted when they feel upset.3. They need adults who understand their communication cues & who respond back.4. They need adults who can slow down and get into their rhythm.5. Babies need a chance to be active explorers in the world.6. They learn by touching, mouthing, seeing, hearing, smelling the world around.7. They learn by trial and error and by making mistakes.8. They learn through their interactions with the people who care for them.9. A child who is often talked to will learn more words.10. They learn by being allowed to move freely in a safe environment.
Adults are responsible for creating safe environments and materials for babies to explore
and for providing supervision, attention and responsive interaction. A child who's given love & praise for learning new things will want to learn more.
